Pancake Breakfast on August 24 to benefit Latina and First Nations Midwives

We are hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, August 24 from 9-12 at Great Oak Cohousing in Ann Arbor to benefit midwives from Mexico and Central America, as well as indigenous midwives from Canada. The Midwives of North America has a yearly conference in the United States and traditionally the bulk of the attendees have been from the U.S. because of travel and lodging costs. For midwives from Latin American countries, even the conference fee might be prohibitive. The Michigan Midwives' Association and MANA have set up a scholarship fund to help cover costs for midwives from Latin America and Canada to help the conference be more inclusive of all of the midwives in North America. We are trying to raise a final $2500 in just a few weeks to offer scholarships in time for midwives to acquire visas and make travel plans. Please join us! Details here (pdf). If you can't join us on the 24th, please consider making a donation. Call Stacia at 734-222-0011 for information on how to donate or email stacia@trilliumbirthservices.com.

New Apprentices!

I am happy to announce that Christa Bartley, who had been working with us temporarily last fall has decided to join Trillium as a permanent apprentice. Christa has been attending homebirths for several years and is now beginning to do work as a primary midwife under supervision. She brings and amazing set of skills and experience to the practice and I am lucky to have her. She is also joined by our two newest apprentices, Susan Kennard and Mandy Bell, who have been with me since January 2008. I am excited to be working with these fantastic women and know that Trillium's clients will be spoiled by them.
